Excel VBA Training

Learning objectives

• Know correct VBA syntax and the principle of a macro.
• Automate tasks in Excel, Word and other Microsoft products.
• Manage folders and files on Windows from a macro.
• Write robust macros: error handling, code organisation.

Syllabus

Day 1 — Language basics

• Introduction to VBA, why it is useful, how a macro works; using the macro recorder and reading the code it produces.
• Accessing cells, sheets and workbooks; creating and using variables; data types.
• Operators, conditions, loops; creating and using constants.

Day 2 — Useful everyday macros

• Triggering macros with buttons; nesting macros (Private / Public).
• Error handling; exercises.
• Automating Excel files: consolidation, formatting, reports.

Day 3 (optional) — Beyond Excel

• Automating Word documents; handling text files; Windows folders and files.
• Applications to the participants' own cases; maintenance best practices.

Audience and prerequisites

Anyone who wants to automate tasks in Excel and Word: management controllers, assistants, technicians, engineers. Prerequisites: knowledge of a programming language or good practice of Excel (programming concepts are revisited at the start of the course).

Teaching methods and assessment

Course materials, corrected exercises, work on the participants' workbooks, end-of-course assessment reviewed by Numersalis, certificate of completion.

VBA or Python?

VBA is ideal for automating what happens inside Excel and Word, with nothing to install. When processing leaves Office (many files, databases, APIs, large volumes), Python takes over. We help you choose during the first call.
